It has been my pleasure to serve on the Fremont Board of Education for the past 16 years. During that same time, I have been Fremont’s representative on the Governing Council of Mission Valley Regional Occupational Program, the MVROP (Career Technical Education).
I have been married to my wife Teresa for 39 years and have lived in Fremont for 35 years. Teresa was raised in Fremont went to all of her K-12 schools here. Her parents Ernie and Delia Garcia moved to Fremont 1959. Ernie is 93 years old and a World War II combat veteran, having served as a Crew Chief on a B-24 Liberator based in Italy.
We raised our four children here and all of them spent their K-12 years in Fremont Schools. Our oldest daughter Alicia graduated from Cal and has her Master’s in English. Her husband Kevin is a pilot in the United States Air Force. Our daughter Christina graduated from Santa Clara and has her Master’s in Public Administration. Her husband Jason is a Master Sergeant in the United States Army. Our son Lawrence served in the United States Marine Corps and currently works in regional sales for a Fortune 500 company. Our son Jonathan graduated from Arizona State with a degree in Accounting, will soon be a CPA and is working as a Division Financial Analyst for a Fortune 500 company.
I have been an active parent since my children were in elementary school. I was PTA President for four years at Patterson Elementary School and served on the Site Council for eight years. I served on the Site Council at Thornton for four years and the Site Council at Washington for 6 years. I served on the District’s Curriculum Committee and was an Attendance Area organizer for the successful 2002 Health and Safety Bond. I was selected to be on the Citizen’s Oversight Committee for that Bond, just before being elected to the School Board in 2002.
For the past 16 years, it has been my pleasure to serve you on the School Board. I regularly meet (two to three times a week) with students, parents, teachers and community members in an effort to be as informed as possible. I do not simply take staff’s recommendation and approve of it. Every decision is an informed one. I always keep the confidence of everyone I meet and this allows me to see all perspectives.
I look forward to your support for four more years of Experienced Leadership!
